Tropical Cyclogenesis Triggered by Rossby Wave Breaking over the Western North Pacific

چکیده

This study presents a possible large-scale factor of tropical cyclogenesis over the western North Pacific, which is triggered by Rossby wave breaking to east Japan. More than half cases accompanied cyclogenesis. Results from composite analysis for indicate that genesis and development cyclones are dominant southwest quadrant center, where an intrusion upper-level potential vorticity caused consequent enhanced convection seen. The number in exponentially increases time during developing stage breaking. results further lower-level strong wind convergence associated convection, resulting breaking, favorable conditions An monsoon trough Pacific–Japan pattern can regulate tracks cyclones. These show trigger through southwestward convection.

Western Pacific Tropical Cyclogenesis Precursors

The basic ingredients for tropical cyclogenesis have been well established: a sufficiently deep warm ocean layer, low-level cyclonic vorticity, weak vertical wind shear, and deep moist convection (e. et al. 2008) have attributed cyclogenesis to a variety of low-level precursor systems that enhance one or more of these ingredients. These studies have traditionally focused on features such as the...

Mixed Rossby–Gravity Waves and Western Pacific Tropical Cyclogenesis. Part I: Synoptic Evolution

A large-amplitude mixed Rossby–gravity wave packet is identified in the western Pacific using 6–10-day bandpass-filtered winds. Individual disturbances of 2300–3000-km wavelength propagated westward as the packet moved slowly eastward. The packet first appeared, and subsequently amplified, within a region of active convection associated with the Madden–Julian oscillation (MJO), which was isolat...

The Role of Wave Energy Accumulation in Tropical Cyclogenesis over the Tropical North Atlantic

A hierarchical modeling approach is used to study the process by which interactions of easterly waves with the background flow can result in a reduction in the longitudinal and vertical scale of the waves. Theory suggests that in flows that possess a negative longitudinal gradient (U x <0) there is a reduction of longitudinal and vertical group speeds and an increase in regional wave action den...

Analysis of Tropical Cyclogenesis in the Western North Pacific for 2000 and 2001*

High-resolution satellite data and NCEP–NCAR reanalysis data are used to analyze 34 tropical cyclone (TC) genesis events in the western North Pacific during the 2000 and 2001 typhoon seasons. Three types of synoptic-scale disturbances are identified in the pregenesis stages. They are tropical cyclone energy dispersions (TCEDs), synoptic wave trains (SWTs) unrelated to preexisting TCs, and easte...

Attributing Tropical Cyclogenesis to Equatorial Waves in the Western North Pacific

Tropical cyclogenesis is attributed to an equatorial wave when the filtered rainfall anomaly exceeds a threshold value at the genesis location. It is argued that 0 mm day (simply requiring a positive anomaly) is too small a threshold because unrelated noise can produce a positive anomaly. A threshold of 6 mm day is too large because two-thirds of storms would have no precursor disturbance. Betw...
